Guide to Troubleshooting BioCyc.org Access Issues

BioCyc Access Status

Utilizing a BioCyc Institutional Subscription

  • View our subscriber list to check whether your institution has a subscription.
  • If your institution does have a subscription, try accessing our site from within your institution’s network or VPN, or follow your IT department's instructions for using your institution's proxy server for viewing subscription materials. Some institutions may require you to use a proxy server even within their network.
  • Some VPNs are configured to use a split-tunnel, which means that only some traffic is routed through the VPN. If you are connected to your institution's VPN, but the IP address listed above is for your local internet service provider (you can look it up at https://ip-lookup.net/), that may be the case here. Try changing your VPN settings to handle all traffic, or ask your IT department to include BioCyc.org in the set of resources automatically handled by the VPN.
  • If these methods do not work, please email us at biocyc-support@sri.com and provide us with the following information:
    1. The name of your institution.
    2. Cut-and-paste the complete URL of the error page (with a title such as "You exceeded your access limit for this month" or "Subscription access only") from the browser address bar.
    3. Your IP address from within your institution’s network, such as from an on-campus location. The IP address that we are seeing you connect from is shown in the white box above. Please send us the text in this box.
  • If your institution is not listed as a subscriber, please contact your institution's Information Technology (IT) department and request they purchase a subscription. You can also contact us for help in setting up a subscription for your university or company.
  • If you need immediate access, consider subscribing as an individual while the institutional subscription is in process; we will refund the personal subscription once the institutional subscription is in place.

Utilizing a BioCyc Individual Subscription

To utilize an individual BioCyc subscription, login to your BioCyc account. If a subscription is properly associated with your account, you will see a subscription end date in your account "Preferences".
